About me

My name is Karoline Mikus and I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network in Tübingen. I am interested in the mechanisms behind educational upward mobility. My research examines why some children manage to thrive in education although they are coming from families with a low socioeconomic status. Particularly, I am interested in the relative importance of family and child charactersitics in the process of upward mobility. In order to answer this question I draw on research from sociology, psychology and educational sciences. Methodologically, my research is primarily quantitative in nature.
